A Black-Tie Indian Wedding at a Medieval Castle in Umbria
Photographed by Manisol Wedding
“A romantic, vibrant, and utterly unforgettable event in the heart of Italy,” is how photographer Manisol Wedding remembers Karyna and Trace’s destination wedding — and it’s not hard to see why. Set against the honey-hued stone of Castello di Montignano, this multi-cultural celebration unfolded like a love letter to heritage, elegance, and joy.
The couple, who brought together Indian, South African, and American roots, chose the restored medieval borgo for both its cinematic setting and its no-curfew policy — “essential for a celebration that lasted well into the night,” the photographer explains. But before the dancing and the pool plunge, the day began quietly: Trace surrounded by his closest friends, Karyna with her parents. “It was particularly special,” recalls the photographer, “as her father also did her hair.”
Karyna’s look was a standout: a custom white and silver beaded sari with feather-trimmed sleeves that added a touch of playful glamour. “She looked absolutely radiant,” says Manisol Wedding, “complemented by delicate jewelry that caught the light all day long.” Her bridesmaids’ first look was emotional; the one with Trace, even more so. The couple shared a private moment before the ceremony, bathed in the soft Umbrian light and buzzing with anticipation.
The vows took place in the borgo’s intimate piazzetta, transformed with lush white florals and surrounded by guests dressed in all black — a bold and elegant contrast to Karyna’s luminous attire. “Their ceremony was a seamless blend of cultures,” says the photographer. “They combined a Western exchange of vows with readings from the Bhagavadgītā, the Bible, and non-religious texts they loved. It was deeply personal, and so moving.”
Cocktail hour followed by the pool, where limoncello and aperitivi flowed, before dinner under the stars. A millefoglie-making experience served as dessert and entertainment. “The seating plan was limoncello-themed, a charming nod to summer in Italy,” the photographer adds. Later, traditions gave way to dancing — high-energy, joy-filled, and rich with Indian wedding spirit.
And just when the night felt like it couldn’t be more alive, the newlyweds and their guests made an impromptu leap into the pool. “It was the perfect finale,” says Manisol Weddings, “to an extraordinary wedding in Italy.”
