From a Toronto First Date to a Tuscan Castle Celebration

Photographed by Linda Nari

am and Peter met in July 2022 on Raya, when Peter sent the first message that quickly led to a first date at Bar Koukla in Toronto. Photographer Linda Nari shares: “They met in person about a week later, and by the end of the night, both had texted friends—and each other—that it was the best first date they had ever been on.” What followed moved quickly but naturally. “The two went on three dates in their first four days of knowing each other, quickly becoming inseparable. Everything felt easy, natural, and perfectly timed, and they soon moved in together, both knowing instinctively that it was right.” That same sense of certainty would later shape their wedding decisions.

Just a few months into their relationship, they travelled to Italy for the first time together. As Linda describes, “It was there that they discovered how effortlessly they traveled together—open to anything, curious, and fully present.” Moving from Venice to Tuscany to Rome, they were drawn to the rhythm of Italian life. Siena stood out. “Though they weren’t engaged at the time, both knew it was their favorite place they visited.” One evening at Palazzo Tolomei, during a Sunday DJ set, the unexpected happened: “As rain began to fall, the DJ unexpectedly played Sam’s favorite song—‘Levels’ by Avicii—midway through a fully Italian set. They danced and sang in the rain, creating one of the most magical and memorable nights of their lives.” That memory quietly set the tone for what was to come.

When it came time to plan the wedding, returning to Siena felt inevitable. “Siena held a special place in their story—not because of heritage or tradition, but because of the feeling it gave them: historic, intimate, cinematic.” With planner Chiara’s guidance, they discovered Castello di Celsa. “After watching a single video of the castle, they knew instantly it was the one. They chose it without visiting first, trusting the feeling that had guided so much of their relationship.” Months later, they arrived in May 2024 to finalize the details in person. For couples exploring weddings in Italy, and especially those considering Tuscany, Castello di Celsa represents the kind of venue that blends architectural drama with privacy just outside Siena.

The setting delivered exactly what they had imagined. “Set among the Tuscan landscape, Castello di Celsa offered everything they had imagined: privacy, romance, and the timeless beauty of a fairytale castle.” The ceremony unfolded outdoors beneath open sky, with the castle’s ivy-covered façade and sculpted gardens forming a natural backdrop. Sam wore an off-the-shoulder lace gown with a long, weightless veil, while Peter chose a soft ivory suit with a pale blue bow tie. Close-up photographs capture the ring exchange with quiet focus—her veil catching the light, his hands steady, both smiling with that unmistakable ease first described at the start of their story.

Portraits moved through the castle’s formal Renaissance gardens and along stone walls threaded with pink climbing roses. Aerial views reveal the full composition: turreted towers, parterre gardens, and the surrounding Tuscan countryside stretching beyond the estate walls. For readers browsing venues in Italy or exploring a curated selection of wedding venues in Italy, Castello di Celsa illustrates how historic architecture can feel cinematic without overpowering the celebration itself.

Dinner was set in the courtyard beneath crystal chandeliers suspended against walls wrapped in ivy. Long white tables were dressed with green garlands, pale roses, gold-rimmed glassware and candlelight, while Aperol spritz cocktails added a saturated pop of orange during cocktail hour. As evening settled in, the atmosphere shifted toward music and movement in the stone courtyard, where Sam and Peter spun across the floor for their first dance, framed by the castle entrance and soft lighting. “Surrounded by just 50 of their closest friends and family, Sam and Peter celebrated their love in a place that felt both deeply personal and wonderfully transportive—a wedding rooted not in tradition, but in joy, intuition, and the magic of shared moments.”
