About Whispering Oaks Ranch
Whispering Oaks Ranch began as a dream of Moab locals Mike and Kelly, who fell in love with this rare mountain property in 1998. They spent years building the original lodge and cabins with their own hands, eventually welcoming their first guests in 2005. What started as a family retreat quickly blossomed into one of the most picturesque and welcoming mountain wedding venues in the region.
Set at 8,000 feet elevation, the Ranch offers an alpine escape with the comforts of a thoughtfully curated estate. With 50 acres of meadows, woodlands, and lawns backdropped by the jagged La Sal peaks, the property feels like a hidden mountain village. The ranch includes seven luxury cabins, a massive 55,000 sq ft lawn, and an 1,800 sq ft covered pavilion that serves as the focal point for events and gatherings.
Ceremonies
Ceremonies at Whispering Oaks Ranch are framed by the wild beauty of Utah’s high country. Whether you envision a relaxed gathering under the sun, a twilight ceremony in the trees, or an elevated micro-wedding with designer details, the ranch offers both structure and freedom to make it your own.
- The Pavilion: With space for up to 200 guests, the covered pavilion is ideal for structured ceremonies with stage setups and décor. It boasts mountain views, lighting, and seating options that can be customised to your vision.
- Cedar Bend Lodge Deck: This expansive porch at the flagship lodge is perfect for smaller weddings and elopements, offering unmatched views of the surrounding peaks.
- Forest Glades and Lawn Ceremonies: Couples may also opt for a free-form ceremony beneath groves of oaks or out on the expansive lawn, surrounded by wildflowers and open skies.
The team at Whispering Oaks works closely with couples to plan timelines, advise on layout and setup, and coordinate with external vendors. The venue’s micro-wedding packages, available with the Cedar Bend Lodge or smaller cabins, are ideal for couples seeking a more intimate, retreat-style event.
Receptions & Celebrations
The Ranch offers multiple celebration zones designed to transition your special day from ceremony to cocktails to dancing with ease.
- The Pavilion: At the heart of larger receptions, this 1,800 sq ft structure comes equipped with a dance floor, bar setup, and caterer’s prep room. Adjoining decks expand the space and allow guests to move freely between dancing and lounging under the stars.
- The Lawn: A 55,000 sq ft expanse of grass invites lawn games, casual dining, and breathtaking sunset dinners. Perfect for a tented setup or outdoor tablescape.
- Cedar Bend Lodge & Other Cabins: These structures offer additional spaces for welcome drinks, post-wedding brunches, and late-night gatherings with views and comfort built in.
The property is bring your own booze friendly, and bar setups can be as refined or relaxed as desired; from open bar service to Champagne toasts by the fire. Vendors can utilise the industrial BBQ grills and prep spaces to craft everything from multi-course meals to hearty buffets or casual BBQs.
Accommodation
Whispering Oaks Ranch can sleep up to 65 guests across seven individually designed cabins, totalling 19 bedrooms. Each unit is positioned to feel private and self-contained while offering easy access to the main event spaces.
- Cedar Bend Lodge: The crown jewel of the ranch, this 6,000 sq ft log-style home includes six bedrooms (each with ensuite bathrooms), multiple porches, and indoor-outdoor common areas, ideal for hosting group meals or wedding day prep.
- Grey Dawn, Wildflower, and Sagewood Cabins: Perfect for micro-wedding guests or smaller family groups, these cabins sleep 6–10 each and include private hot tubs.
- Three additional cabins: With flexible sleeping arrangements and generous common areas, these accommodate mid-size groups and offer a homey retreat with views, porches, and warm interiors.
Each cabin at Whispering Oaks Ranch has been thoughtfully appointed to provide a warm, restorative home base for your wedding weekend. Designed with comfort and tranquility in mind, they are ideal for unwinding after a day of celebration or adventure in the mountains.
Each cabin includes a private hot tub as well as a cozy fireplace that adds both warmth and charm during cooler months. Fully equipped kitchens offer all the essentials for morning coffees, late-night snacks, or even full meal prep for intimate dinners. Satellite TV and high-speed Wi-Fi keep you connected and entertained, while freshly stocked coffee, tea, and hotel-quality linens ensure you have everything you need for a restful and luxurious stay.
The decor throughout the cabins embraces rustic mountain character without compromising on modern convenience, making every overnight experience as memorable as the celebration itself.
If your guest list exceeds the 65 on-site beds, the Ranch team can suggest nearby Moab accommodations and help coordinate shuttles, ensuring everyone is cared for.
Catering
Whispering Oaks Ranch is designed for culinary creativity. While there is no in-house catering, the venue provides everything your external chef needs:
- Caterer prep room
- Two large BBQ grills
- Pavilion bar station
- Outdoor buffet tables and deck setups
The Ranch maintains a list of tried-and-true caterers, bartenders, and service staff who are familiar with the layout and equipment. Guests are also welcome to select their own vendors. Cedar Bend Lodge events are limited to the registered overnight guests for safety and space.
Beverage service is flexible and permitted throughout the venue. Some couples bring in mixologists or whiskey tastings, while others keep it simple with beer, wine, and Champagne. Open bar extensions, signature drinks, and bar carts are all welcome additions.
