A Modern Garden Romance: Wedding at Bastide du Roy

Photographed by Joan Jellet

When it comes to outdoor weddings that feel both cinematic and timeless, Bastide du Roy in the South of France is a location that never fails to deliver. Wrapped in lush greenery and steeped in history, this private estate set the scene for a modern garden celebration that blended classic elegance with contemporary styling.

Captured by Joan Jellett, the imagery feels like a study in light, texture, and atmosphere. From the bride’s structured gown with architectural lines to the sculptural floral installations lining the ceremony aisle, every detail leaned into a less-is-more philosophy—but without losing impact. The ceremony took place in the estate’s secluded garden, where rows of wooden chairs framed a minimalist white aisle punctuated by cloud-like clusters of white roses and orchids. A moment of pure simplicity, letting the natural beauty of the surroundings speak for itself.

Later, long banquet tables were set in the courtyard under a canopy of string lights. The tablescape was understated but considered—think white linens, crystal-clear glassware, and delicate single-stem roses in glass vases. As night fell, hundreds of flickering candles transformed the setting into something utterly magical.

And the dress? A masterclass in modern bridal style. With clean lines, a dramatic train, and barely-there floral texture, it felt effortlessly refined. From walking the staircase to twirling under the stars, the bride carried the look with ease and confidence.

The evening unfolded beneath the French sky with laughter, dancing, and candlelight illuminating every shared moment. Proof that you don’t need bold colors or over-the-top details to make a statement—sometimes, simplicity steals the show.
