Whispering Oaks Ranch is a mountain wedding venue in the La Sal Mountains above Moab, Utah, set across 50 acres of meadows, woodlands and open lawn. Its defining quality is contrast: an alpine cabin retreat with the red-rock drama of Moab within reach, giving couples a setting that feels both secluded and unmistakably tied to Utah’s high desert landscape. Set at 8,000 feet elevation, the ranch includes seven cabins, a 55,000 sq ft lawn and an 1,800 sq ft covered pavilion for events. It suits couples who want a private wedding weekend built around fresh air, mountain views, shared cabins and a relaxed indoor-outdoor flow.

Ceremonies

Ceremonies at Whispering Oaks Ranch are shaped by the high-country setting: mountain air, oak groves, open lawns and the jagged outline of the La Sal peaks. The venue offers enough structure for a polished celebration, while still keeping the feeling informal and close to nature.

The team supports couples with timelines, layout planning, setup advice and coordination with external vendors. Micro-wedding packages are also available with Cedar Bend Lodge or smaller cabins for a more intimate retreat-style celebration.

The Pavilion

A covered ceremony setting for up to 200 guests, with mountain views, lighting and space for seating, staging and décor. It offers the most structured option while still feeling connected to the landscape.

Cedar Bend Lodge Deck

An expansive porch at the ranch’s flagship lodge, suited to smaller weddings and elopements. The scale feels more personal, with wide views across the surrounding peaks.

Forest Glades and Lawn Ceremonies

Couples can also hold ceremonies beneath the oak trees or on the open lawn. These settings feel more free-form, with wildflowers, sky and mountain scenery creating a softer outdoor atmosphere.

The ceremony experience here feels grounded in the ranch itself: simple, spacious and shaped by the mountain setting rather than heavy decoration.

Receptions

A wedding at Whispering Oaks Ranch feels like a private mountain gathering, with space for guests to move between the pavilion, lawn, cabin decks and firepit. The energy can shift easily from relaxed and outdoorsy to more festive once the evening begins.

Cocktails work naturally on the decks or lawn, where guests can take in the mountain views and settle into the pace of the ranch. The space gives the early part of the celebration an easy, social quality, with room for lawn games, informal seating and open-air drinks.

Dinner can take place beneath the covered pavilion or across the 55,000 sq ft lawn, depending on the size and style of the wedding. The pavilion includes a dance floor, bar setup and caterer’s prep room, while adjoining decks give guests space to step away from the main reception without leaving the atmosphere of the party.

As night falls, the celebration can move between dancing, firepit gatherings and late drinks under the stars. The ranch is bring-your-own-alcohol friendly, allowing couples to shape the bar experience around their own style, from simple beer and wine to signature cocktails or whiskey tastings.

Staying on Site

Whispering Oaks Ranch sleeps up to 65 guests across seven cabins, with 19 bedrooms in total. Each cabin is positioned to feel private and self-contained while remaining close to the event spaces.

Cedar Bend Lodge

The ranch’s flagship 6,000 sq ft lodge includes six bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, along with multiple porches and indoor-outdoor common areas. It works especially well for wedding-party stays, family gatherings and getting ready on the day.

Grey Dawn, Wildflower and Sagewood Cabins

These smaller cabins sleep around 6–10 guests each and include private hot tubs. They suit family groups, micro-wedding guests or close friends staying together.

Additional Cabins

The remaining cabins offer flexible sleeping arrangements, generous shared areas, porches and mountain views. They give guests a comfortable base across the wedding weekend without feeling like a hotel block.

All cabins include private hot tubs, fireplaces, fully equipped kitchens, satellite TV, high-speed WiFi, coffee, tea and hotel-quality linens. For larger guest lists, the ranch team can suggest nearby Moab accommodation and help coordinate shuttle arrangements.

Food & Atmosphere

Food at Whispering Oaks Ranch is flexible and guest-driven, shaped by external caterers rather than an in-house restaurant. This gives couples room to create a dining experience that matches the setting, whether that means a polished plated dinner, a generous buffet or a relaxed mountain barbecue.

The venue provides a caterer prep room, two large BBQ grills, a pavilion bar station, outdoor buffet tables and deck setups. Couples may choose from the ranch’s list of familiar caterers, bartenders and service staff, or bring in their own vendors.

Drinks are equally flexible, with beverage service permitted throughout the venue. Some weddings bring in mixologists or tasting experiences, while others keep the bar simple with beer, wine and Champagne. The result is a food and drinks experience that feels personal, practical and well suited to a private ranch setting.
