An Ethereal Garden Affair at the Historic Bastide du Roy

Photographed by Clémence Aresu

There’s something quietly intoxicating about the way history holds space for modern romance. Set in the storied grounds of Bastide du Roy—an estate once gifted to King Henri IV—this editorial celebrates the poetic tension between past and present. Beneath olive trees and between weathered stone walls, a contemporary love story unfolded in soft focus, brought to life by photographer Clémence Aresu and a creative team with an eye for detail.

The ceremony took place in the heart of the music garden, where florals cascaded in every direction. Delphiniums and roses mingled with wild textures around an aged fountain, anchoring the scene in grandeur while whispering of spring. Mauve, violet, and blush tones mirrored the estate’s own botanical palette—especially the romantic wisteria that climbs the fountain’s edges every year. The result was a setting that felt both organic and intentional, like a dream too delicate to name.

At the centre of it all: the gown. Created exclusively for the occasion by Marion Fera, the “Iris” dress made its own kind of architecture. Layers of ruffled tulle faded from ivory to lilac, blooming like a flower in motion. It moved with softness and statement—a couture piece that echoed the garden’s lush rhythm. Paired with sculptural floral earrings and a bouquet in peach and lavender, the bride’s look felt both grounded and unearthly.

The design spilled into the reception, where a long table was set beneath olive branches and softened by lilac taper candles, etched glassware, and antique-style cutlery. A pastel-toned cake stood nearby in the Spanish garden, framed by climbing florals and aged statuary. Everything about this editorial held a sense of balance—between art and intimacy, heritage and reinvention.

Bastide du Roy may carry the weight of centuries, but in the right hands, it becomes a canvas for modern expression. With each detail speaking to both place and possibility, this wedding inspiration feels like a love letter written in petals and silk.
