Black-Tie Drama Beneath the Chandeliers at Palacio Metropolitano

Photographed by Ekaterina Shcherbakova

The day began quietly at the InterContinental, where the bride got ready in soft morning light before the pace shifted. There’s a calm visible in the early photographs — the structured satin gown hanging with sculptural precision, final touches in the mirror, a pause before stepping into the next chapter. It set the tone for a celebration that unfolded later, moving from private anticipation to full ceremony.

The church ceremony brought guests together beneath frescoed ceilings and stained glass, the space washed in warm, golden light. As the bride walked down the aisle in her voluminous satin gown and lace choker neckline, the scale of the architecture contrasted beautifully with the clean lines of her silhouette. The moment they recessed down the red-carpeted aisle felt cinematic but restrained — a classic scene framed by tradition.

From there, the celebration transitioned to Palacio Metropolitano, one of Mexico City’s most visually striking venues. Historic murals, gilded mouldings, crystal chandeliers, and towering mirrors define the interiors, each room layered with detail. For couples considering a wedding in Mexico, it’s the kind of setting that shows how varied the architectural landscape can be.

“The reception followed at Palacio Metropolitano, an extraordinary setting defined by historic murals, gilded detailing, crystal chandeliers, and endless candlelight,” shares photographer Ekaterina Shcherbakova. Long mirrored tables ran the length of the ballroom, reflecting rows of taper candles and deep red florals. Velvet chairs added richness against the polished parquet floors, while the couple paused beneath chandeliers for portraits that played with symmetry and reflection.

The bride’s gown held its own against the ornate interiors. Its structured bodice and sweeping train created a strong silhouette, especially in the mirrored corridor where candlelight multiplied into infinity. “Throughout the evening, small moments stood out: the couple pausing together beneath the chandeliers, reflections in the grand mirrors, and the soft glow of candles as guests shared dinner and conversation,” Ekaterina notes.

The entire day moved seamlessly from ceremony to candlelit celebration, shifting in atmosphere but never losing cohesion. For couples drawn to historic architecture and immersive interiors, Palacio Metropolitano offers a distinctive backdrop in the heart of Mexico City.
