Castello di Casole is a 10th-century castle estate in Tuscany, set across 4,200 acres between Siena and Florence. Its strength is scale: not simply in guest numbers, but in the number of distinct worlds it holds within one private estate. There is a restored chapel, vineyard-framed terraces, woodland dining spaces, a wine cellar, gardens, villas, suites, spa facilities and enough landscape to make a wedding feel immersive without becoming scattered. Now operated by Belmond, the estate pairs medieval architecture and Etruscan heritage with the consistency of full-service hospitality. For couples planning a destination wedding in Tuscany, it offers the rare combination of atmosphere, accommodation, dining and guest experience all managed in one place.

Ceremonies

Ceremonies at Castello di Casole are defined by contrast: sacred interiors, open-air views, garden settings and nearby civic or religious options for legal rites. The in-house team works alongside couples and wedding planners on ceremony logistics, including documents, styling, officiants and multilingual support where required.

San Tommaso Chapel

A restored 10th-century chapel for Catholic or interfaith rites, seating up to 30 guests. The scale is intimate and devotional, with the weight of the estate’s history felt most strongly here.

The Amphitheatre

An open-air setting shaped by the natural contours of the estate, suitable for symbolic ceremonies of up to 150 guests. It brings a more expansive feeling to the day, with the ceremony held against the broader Tuscan landscape.

Vineyards and Rose Garden

A softer, more seasonal option for symbolic or humanist blessings, recommended for around 20–80 guests. These settings feel closer to the land, with less architectural formality than the chapel or amphitheatre.

Nearby Historic Churches and Halls

Legal and religious ceremonies may also take place in Siena or Casole d’Elsa, using nearby churches or civic spaces before returning to the estate for the celebration.

Receptions

A wedding at Castello di Casole feels immersive and estate-led, with each part of the day moving through a different setting rather than relying on a single central room. The scale allows the celebration to shift in mood: terrace drinks, candlelit dinners, cellar gatherings, poolside moments and late-night music all have their place.

Cocktails often begin on the Visconti or Tosca terraces, where the first impression is space, view and warm Tuscan light. It gives guests an immediate sense of where they are, without needing elaborate styling to carry the moment.

Dinner may unfold on the Limonaia Terrace for larger seated celebrations of up to 150 guests, where the setting feels open and generous. Smaller dinners can take place in the vine-covered courtyard, which has a more enclosed, conversational quality, or in the wine cellar for autumn and winter gatherings of up to 40 guests.

As evening arrives, the energy can move outdoors again. The amphitheatre becomes a natural place for music and dancing, while the poolside and garden lounges support a more relaxed after-hours atmosphere. For exclusive-use weddings, the estate also lends itself to a full weekend programme: pizza by the pool, wellness sessions, stargazing dinners, olive grove brunches and guided walks across the grounds.

Staying on Site

Accommodation is a major part of the Castello di Casole experience. The estate has 39 individually styled suites and two Signature Villas, allowing many guests to stay within the same private setting while still having a sense of personal retreat.

Limonaia Suites

These suites open onto private garden terraces and sleep two guests. They suit guests who want easy access to the outdoors and a quieter rhythm between events.

Oliveto Suites

The Oliveto Suites offer more generous living space and views across the Tuscan valley. Each sleeps two guests, with some configurations suited to small families.

Signature Villas — Thesan and Usil

The two stand-alone villas each offer approximately 250 square metres of space, with three bedrooms, private garden patios, kitchens and lounges. Each villa accommodates around six to seven guests, making them well suited to close family or wedding-party stays.

Across the estate, interiors combine restored materials such as stone, timber, terracotta and vaulted ceilings with contemporary comfort. In total, Castello di Casole accommodates up to 150 guests across its suites and villas, with additional boutique accommodation nearby arranged through the concierge where required.

Food & Atmosphere

Food at Castello di Casole is place-led, shaped by the estate’s gardens, olive groves, vineyard and wider Tuscan setting. Dining and bar services are managed in-house, with couples working with the executive chef and events team on menus, wine pairings and drinks. Outside catering and bar service are not permitted.

The experience can shift from formal to relaxed across the stay. A wedding dinner may take place at Tosca Ristorante, within the main building, or outdoors on one of the terraces. More intimate meals can be arranged in the historic wine cellar, while the Enchanted Table brings guests into a woodland setting for a private long-table meal beneath suspended lights and candelabras.

Beyond the wedding day, food becomes part of the wider weekend. Poolside barbecues, countryside picnics, truffle tastings, cellar wine pairings, private chef-led tastings and garden dinners all help guests experience Tuscany through the estate itself rather than through a standard event menu.
