Garthmyl Hall is an exclusive-use Georgian country house wedding venue in Powys, set close to the Welsh–Shropshire border near Montgomery. Privately owned and designed for full-weekend celebrations, it gives couples two days and two nights to take over the house, gardens and surrounding estate with their closest people. The venue’s character lies in its layered sense of occasion: a 19th-century hall with five acres of landscaped grounds, a restored Walled Garden, a botanical Summer House, the Gentleman’s Bar, a private Cellar Bar and soon, a permanent Georgian Orangery. Rather than compressing the wedding into one day, Garthmyl Hall creates space for arrival drinks, the main celebration and a slower departure the following morning.

Weddings & settings

Ceremonies

Ceremonies at Garthmyl Hall are defined by the choice between garden structure, period interiors and smaller glasshouse intimacy. The venue is licensed for civil ceremonies and welcomes humanist celebrations, including same-sex weddings, allowing the whole day to remain within the estate.

The Walled Garden

With space for over 150 guests, the restored Walled Garden brings ceremony seating into a planted, enclosed setting of brick walls, pathways and seasonal greenery.

The Ballroom

Seating up to 100 guests, the Ballroom offers an indoor ceremony space with blush, sage and gold tones, chandelier lighting and French doors opening towards the grounds.

The Summer House

A reclaimed glasshouse threaded with grapevines, the Summer House holds around 45 guests and creates a lighter, more botanical atmosphere for smaller ceremonies.

For religious services, nearby churches in Berriew and Montgomery may be worked into the schedule. The in-house team provides supplier guidance throughout planning, with full coordination on the day itself.

Receptions

Receptions at Garthmyl Hall are shaped by movement between the house, gardens and evening spaces. The estate works particularly well for weddings with a weekend rhythm: welcome drinks or a BBQ the night before, the main celebration, then brunch or a garden gathering before guests leave.

Drinks receptions often take place in the Walled Garden, on the lawns or inside the Summer House, depending on the season. Dinner may be hosted in the Ballroom, outdoors in the gardens or, from May 2027, in the new Georgian Orangery. Designed to replace the current marquee, the Orangery will seat up to 170 guests beneath a large glass ceiling lantern, with whitewashed walls, underfloor heating, sound insulation and creative lighting.

As the evening develops, the celebration shifts through the estate’s bar spaces. The Gentleman’s Bar, Summer House Bar and Cellar Bar each bring a different mood, while live bands or DJs anchor the main party space with a dedicated dance floor.

Garthmyl Hall hosts up to 170 guests. Fireworks are not available and a curfew applies, but the estate’s layout gives the evening a natural sense of progression, from dinner to dancing to late-night drinks.

Staying on Site

Accommodation is central to the Garthmyl Hall experience, allowing up to 50 guests to stay on site across the Hall, Stables, cottages and Boathouse. The two-night hire model means the house feels lived in across the weekend, with guests arriving the day before and departing after the wedding rather than moving in and out for a single event.

The Hall

The main house has ten en-suite bedrooms sleeping up to 23 guests. Rooms are individually styled with layered interiors and include Molton Brown toiletries, locally made chocolates and fresh seasonal flowers.

Honeymoon Suite

Set within its own private wing, the Honeymoon Suite includes a super king-size bed, dressing room and spacious en-suite bathroom with a slipper bath.

Additional Accommodation

The Old Dairy sleeps 10, the Clocktower sleeps 8, and Ty Bach One, Ty Bach Two and the Wainhouse each sleep two guests. The Boathouse offers an additional private retreat, giving couples flexibility when arranging close family and wedding party accommodation.

Together, the rooms support the venue’s extended format: a house-party-style stay with enough privacy for key guests to feel settled throughout the celebration.

Food & Atmosphere

Food at Garthmyl Hall is shaped by choice, with couples selecting from a curated list of catering partners including Comyn Bruce, Tallulah & Co, Paisley Flour and Wild Garlic. The approach allows the dining style to match the celebration, whether that means a formal seated meal, a relaxed BBQ, or a more seasonal garden feast.

The setting changes the way food is experienced across the weekend. A welcome meal might feel informal and social, the wedding breakfast more composed, and the following morning’s brunch slower and easier. With the Ballroom, gardens, Summer House and forthcoming Orangery all part of the estate’s flow, dining is not tied to a single room.

The venue is licensed and has a fully operational bar, with bespoke drinks packages, personalised cocktails and a curated wine list. Couples may bring their own table wine for the wedding breakfast, subject to a corkage fee. Three bar areas across the estate give drinks service a sense of movement, from polished house interiors to late-night Cellar Bar energy.
