Set within 400 acres of private parkland near Cornwall’s north coast, Scorrier House is an exclusive-use Georgian estate designed for immersive, multi-day weddings. This historic family home combines sweeping interiors, rare botanical gardens and a licensed ceremony setting for up to 160 guests. With on-site accommodation, a staffed bar and a seasoned events team, it offers the structure of a full-service venue with the freedom to shape a celebration that feels expansive and unhurried.
About Scorrier House
Located in Scorrier near Redruth in Cornwall, this stately 18th-century home remains in private family ownership and is offered on an exclusive-use basis. Couples have access to the house, gardens and surrounding parkland for a minimum two-night stay, allowing the wedding to unfold across an entire weekend rather than a single day.
The estate’s 400 acres include ancient woodland, open lawns and one of Cornwall’s most significant private gardens. Once employing the renowned Victorian plant hunter William Lobb, the garden is known for rare species and historical curiosities. Today, its 10 acres of curated planting provide both ceremony backdrops and a sense of quiet grandeur rarely found so close to the Cornish coast.
Inside, Scorrier House balances symmetry and scale with warmth. A sweeping double staircase defines the Grand Hall, while period features, antique furnishings and large sash windows create rooms that feel impressive without losing their residential character. The venue can host up to 160 guests for events, with dining capacity for 120 in a single space. Eleven bedrooms across the main house and converted stables accommodate up to 22 guests on site.
An experienced events team with over 25 years in wedding planning supports each couple from enquiry to execution. A dedicated planning platform and a curated network of trusted local suppliers – from caterers and florists to musicians and stylists – help shape a seamless experience.
Ceremonies
Scorrier House is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and welcomes same-sex marriages. Ceremonies can take place indoors or outdoors, offering flexibility across seasons and guest counts.
The Grand Hall (up to 120 guests) is centred around a dramatic double staircase. Couples can exchange vows at its base while guests gather beneath the high ceilings and classical columns, creating a strong architectural frame for the ceremony.
For outdoor ceremonies, the gardens and walled spaces provide a natural setting surrounded by mature trees and botanical planting. The Orangery and garden areas are particularly atmospheric in spring and summer, with layered greenery forming a soft backdrop.
Smaller ceremonies may suit the Drawing Room (up to 80 guests), where a stucco ceiling and large bay window bring in natural light, or the Conservatory (up to 8 guests) for intimate gatherings among exotic plants and fruit trees.
On-the-day coordination is included, ensuring smooth transitions between ceremony and celebration.
Receptions & Celebrations
Receptions at Scorrier House can move fluidly between house and grounds. Guests might begin with drinks on the lawn overlooking the parkland before moving inside for dinner in one of the principal rooms, seating up to 120 guests together.
The house operates as a flexible canvas: couples may select from an approved list of caterers and tailor layouts and styling to suit their vision. Marquees can be attached to the front lawn or positioned within the grounds for larger or weather-proofed celebrations.
After dinner, dancing often unfolds in the Drawing Room, with music from a live band or DJ. The adjoining Bar Room offers a more relaxed space overlooking the gardens, while the conservatory provides additional flow and light.
The standard hire period runs until midnight, with the option to extend to 1am. Celebrations can also continue the following day with brunch or lunch in the house or grounds, extending the sense of occasion across the full weekend.
Fireworks are permitted, there is no fixed curfew beyond agreed hire times, and exclusive access ensures complete privacy throughout.
Accommodation
Accommodation is split between the main house and the converted stables. Five bedrooms in the principal house (three doubles and two twins) are included for two nights, complete with breakfast. A further five en-suite rooms within the former stables – once home to celebrated racehorses – provide additional guest accommodation, bringing total on-site capacity to 22 across 11 bedrooms.
The stable complex includes a large kitchen and enclosed cobbled courtyard, ideal for informal breakfasts, relaxed dinners or a pre-wedding gathering. An adjoining stable barn can host barbecues or post-wedding parties.
Beyond the wedding spaces, guests can enjoy use of the outdoor swimming pool and woodfired sauna within the grounds, adding a retreat-style dimension to the stay.
Catering
Scorrier House works with an approved list of caterers spanning a range of styles and budgets, allowing couples to select a team aligned with their culinary preferences. From formal plated dinners to relaxed sharing feasts or food truck concepts, the format can be shaped to suit the celebration.
A fully stocked and staffed licensed bar is included, along with glassware. Couples coordinate menu details, service style, furniture, cutlery and crockery directly with their chosen caterer, enabling flexibility without sacrificing structure.
