Perched atop Lisbon’s Santa Catarina hill, Verride Palácio Santa Catarina offers a striking balance of heritage, design and urban capital city elegance. This 18th-century palace turned boutique hotel brings a quietly luxurious backdrop to modern weddings, with the city’s rooftops and the Tagus River as your witnesses.

Originally the residence of Portuguese nobility, Verride Palácio Santa Catarina is a masterfully restored 18th-century palace situated in the historic centre of Lisbon. The surrounding Santa Catarina district is layered in texture and culture, a vantage point over the Tagus River and within walking distance to both the bohemian Bairro Alto district and the elegance of Chiado. The palace itself retains many period details, carved ceilings, silk-lined walls, rococo stucco, but is layered with contemporary restraint and modern Portuguese design.

The property is available exclusively for private hire, with a one-night minimum stay requirement. It accommodates up to 100 guests for events and can sleep 36 people across 18 luxury rooms and suites, with an additional apartment located nearby available for longer stays.

Ceremonies

Verride offers a selection of ceremony locations, each with a distinct character.

For those drawn to outdoor settings, the Blue Garden is a hidden gem, framed by city and river views, and well-suited to sunset vows.

The Yellow Room, with its 18th-century architecture and soft light, offers a more intimate indoor space, ideal for smaller groups or symbolic ceremonies.

The Winter Garden, partially open-air with the flexibility to be enclosed, accommodates both civil and non-religious ceremonies. While there is no dedicated chapel on site, the venue is licensed for legal marriages.

An experienced in-house planning team is on hand to guide couples through every stage of the wedding process, from initial concepts to final execution. Working closely with each couple, they ensure every event feels thoughtfully composed and unique to the setting, style and sentiment of the day.

Receptions & Celebrations

Weddings at Verride unfold across spaces with an easy sense of rhythm and refinement. Cocktail hour might begin in the Lisbon Club 55, a vaulted room tucked into the old arcades of the palace, before transitioning to dinner at SUBA, the fine dining restaurant known for its panoramic terrace and Michelin Guide pedigree.

For smaller celebrations, the Winter Garden or Criatura spaces provide architectural elegance and scale-appropriate intimacy. Late-night dancing can be arranged in selected areas of the palace or on the rooftop, with a curfew of 11pm.

Verride houses 18 individually styled rooms and suites, each echoing the building’s noble past while leaning into light, texture and Lisbon’s architectural vernacular. All rooms feature radiant heated floors, Aesop amenities and custom furnishings. Categories range from Superior and Junior Suites with city or river views, to expansive Prestige and Royal Suites on the palace’s historic Pombaline floor.

The Salavisa and Premium Suites add living and dining areas, while the Royal Suites preserve rare features like silk-lined walls and carved wooden ceilings. For extended stays, a 210m² apartment in the Bica district offers additional privacy and independence. Children aged eight and above are welcome; younger guests are not accommodated.

Dining at Verride is woven into the rhythm of celebration with a deep respect for Portugal’s culinary heritage. At the helm is talented Chef Fábio Alves, whose sophisticated, contemporary take on Portuguese cuisine has earned SUBA its place in the Michelin Guide. The restaurant combines seasonal precision with theatrical elegance, offering multi-course tasting menus and curated wine pairings that celebrate both land and sea. The dining room opens onto panoramic views of the city and river, a remarkable setting for wedding dinners, rehearsal meals, or farewell brunches.

For couples wishing to explore the soulful flavours of traditional Portugal, The Lisbon Club 55 presents an equally memorable experience. Housed in the palace’s 18th-century arcades, this richly atmospheric space blends time-worn beauty with local authenticity. Expect rustic seafood, slow-cooked meats, and the layered simplicity of Portuguese comfort dishes, accompanied by craft cocktails and a soundtrack of understated background music.

From rooftop cocktails at sunset to a formal dinner in SUBA or an intimate gathering in the Winter Garden, the culinary team works closely with couples to design bespoke menus that reflect the tone and spirit of their celebration, including options for vegetarian, vegan and other dietary needs.

An in-house bar team manages a full license and can provide tailored drinks packages, open bars, or cocktail pairings designed to enhance the mood of each chapter of the event.
