A Sun-Soaked Destination Wedding on the Cliffs of Cassis

Photographed by Cadoret Studios

Bella and Jon travelled from Australia to the south of France with a simple plan: gather the people they love most and spend a week together by the sea. Domaine de Canaille, perched above the water in Cassis, became both home and setting — somewhere to slow down, settle in, and let the days unfold naturally. “Everything was carefully planned,” Cadoret Studios shares, “but it still felt effortless and magical, shared with their closest friends and family.” The rhythm of the week mattered as much as the wedding day itself, with time built in for long meals, conversation, and being present in the moment.

The ceremony took place overlooking the Mediterranean, framed by pines and open sky. White chairs lined the wooden deck, facing the water, with floral arrangements placed low and sculptural rather than towering. Soft blush, cream, and pale green tones echoed the surrounding landscape rather than competing with it. “Overlooking the sea, their ceremony was simple, quiet, and full of feeling,” the photographer explains. With no excess or distraction, the focus stayed firmly on the couple and the atmosphere around them.

Florals played a central role throughout the day, shifting in tone as the celebration moved from ceremony to reception. Hydrangeas, roses, and anthuriums were arranged in loose, organic forms, sometimes clustered into arch-like installations, other times spilling across tables. “Nothing felt forced,” Cadoret Studios notes. “Everything just… fit.” The colour palette stayed calm during the day, then deepened later with richer reds and playful tomato accents — a subtle nod to the region and its produce.

The reception tables brought a more expressive energy, styled with green-and-white striped linens, vintage-style chairs, and bold centrepieces that mixed flowers with fruit. Sculptural arrangements sat in classical bust vases, adding a sense of humour and contrast to the coastal setting. It felt relaxed but considered, more like a long summer dinner than a formal event — the kind of celebration that encourages guests to move seats, top up glasses, and stay talking as the light begins to change.

As evening arrived, the terrace transformed again. Candlelight softened the space, and the sea became a dark, steady backdrop beyond the balustrade. Guests gathered around long tables, drinks in hand, as conversations overlapped and the pace slowed even further. “A moment shaped by light, emotion, and pure elegance,” the photographer reflects, capturing the way the day moved seamlessly into night without needing to announce the shift.

For couples drawn to destination weddings in France — particularly along the French Riviera — this celebration offers a compelling example of how place can shape a wedding without overpowering it. Domaine de Canaille allowed Bella and Jon to host something immersive rather than event-led, where the setting, the styling, and the schedule worked together naturally. “Here’s a little glimpse of what we prepared for them,” Cadoret Studios adds, “a week full of love, laughter, and memories by the sea.” A reminder that sometimes the most lasting impressions come from giving a moment the space to unfold.
