Užutrakis Manor
Užutrakis Manor sits on a peninsula between Lake Galvė and Lake Skaistis, directly across the water from Trakai Island Castle. The architect Józef Huss designed the palace for Count Józef Tyszkiewicz, and it was built between 1896 and 1901 with interiors in the Louis XVI style. A terrace with open pavilions runs along the Galvė shore, looking straight out to the castle.
What gives Užutrakis its character is that the house and the landscape were planned as one. The French landscape architect Édouard André laid out a park across the whole peninsula, with linden avenues, parterres, marble vases, sculptures and more than 20 ponds linked to each other and to the lakes beyond. The family and their guests once arrived by boat rather than by road. As a wedding venue near Trakai, Užutrakis Manor feels stately, watery and composed, with the castle as its permanent view.
