A Sapa Wedding at Ville de Mont Mountain Resort

Hạnh and Hiệp married above Sapa, Vietnam, on a circular stone terrace built into the hillside at Ville de Mont Mountain Resort, cloud moving low across the mountains behind them. The ceremony space is cantilevered at the cliff edge, timber and rope net the only thing between the guests and the valley floor below, the kind of engineering few venues in Vietnam attempt; for all that drama, the day itself stayed close and unhurried, bridesmaids lifting the train up a flight of garden steps before the processional began.

Hydrangea and orchid rose from the altar in white and blush, banked so high it read as landscape rather than arrangement, echoing the terraced hillsides falling away below. Rows of green velvet stools stood in place of chairs, striped and cylindrical, holding their colour against the sand-toned stone underfoot. From above, the whole terrace reads as a single composition: a pale path splitting two blocks of green, flowers spilling past the rope-net edge toward the drop.

Hiệp wrote his vows in the lodge that morning, seated by the stone fireplace, pen still uncapped in one hand, unhurried in a way that suited them both. They have never really needed grand gestures: a chance encounter during a stranded pandemic flight, a family friend’s son who happened to pick her up from the airport, a university loan that quietly became their first real date. On a trip to Niagara Falls not long after, they worked out that he was born in the Year of the Pig and she in the Year of the Cat, and the names stuck; he still calls her, fondly, “delightfully” dramatic.

Tables ran the length of the open-air restaurant for dinner, set with sage-green plates and pink tapers beneath a canopy of hanging candles. Place cards closed with a blush wax seal from Thiệp cưới Flowee, the same insignia repeated down the row like a signature, while string lights caught the day’s last colour and the peaks dimmed to silhouette behind the glass. The menu drew directly on the region: Sapa salmon served with black caviar, baked Sapa sturgeon in a local sauce, mountain beef with forest pepper. Nothing on the table competed with the view; it simply held its own beside it.

Hạnh’s styling stayed as soft as the wind she’d be standing in all day: an off-the-shoulder lace gown from Darlington Bridal, its long sleeves sheer to the wrist, under a ribbon-edged veil that caught and lifted on the terrace steps. Her bouquet held the same looseness, pale ranunculus and lisianthus with nothing rigid about the shape, and hair and makeup by Mika Makeup & Styling stayed deliberately undone rather than sculpted, built to hold at altitude rather than freeze in place.

Guests lined the aisle on the way out with baskets of petals, small girls in matching pink at the front, the same soft pink Hiệp’s groomsmen wore as ties against their black tuxedos. Everyone reached in at once as Hạnh and Hiệp came through laughing. By the time the last light left the ridgeline, the terrace that had held the morning’s ceremony was simply where two families sat down to dinner.
